Member Feature | Ben Emerson

Ben has joined the Mâché crew as our newest Dedicated Desk member! He’s the founder of klara, a business bridging the gap between people and technology. While klara helps businesses become more efficient and productive now, the long-term vision is to develop software that empowers businesses in exciting ways. Wondering about the name? "The inside joke is that it’s the daughter I never had!" Ben explains.

Outside work, Ben stays busy raising three energetic young boys with his wife, Ciara. Together, they enjoy hiking, beach trips, and anything that helps burn off the kids’ boundless energy.

For his own recharge, Ben turns to boxing: a perfect mix of fitness, stress relief, and mental grit. Don’t worry, though, he won’t throw punches if you say hi; you’ll get a big smile and a friendly chat instead!

Ben is also starting two new Substacks, give them a check
Short Stories, High Hopes – Ben's weekly personal blog with stories from fatherhood, and reflections on life.
Klara: Business Anatomy – Ben's weekly business blog documenting the ups and downs of his business journey as it unfolds, sharing insights, tactics and lessons.

Welcome to Mâché, Ben! We’re excited to see how klara grows and to have you as part of our community.

What's the best thing about Mâché so far?
I love chatting with others at a similar point in their busy journey and getting tips and ideas. I appreciate the effort Natalia and Dans go to to bring us all together with Friday drinks and other social events. It means the place is not sterile and has a really good, homely vibe!

Favourite movie?
The Departed is my all-time favourite movie. I believe every moment in life has a relevant quote from that movie.

Favourite holiday spot?
The beach, especially the far south coast of NSW, e.g. Bermagui and Tathra.

Go-to comfort food?
Vanilla ice-cream. My theory is because it's quite a bland flavour, it's a real test of how good the ice cream actually is. Same applies to Margherita pizza and long blacks.

One thing you absolutely can't live without?
Exercise.

Favourite band?
Radiohead.

Perfect day out in Adelaide?
Last year for my birthday, my brother flew into Adelaide as a surprise – he and my wife had planned the perfect day for me! So that makes answering this question easy. We did boxing in the morning followed by brunch. Then we did a high ropes course, followed by a movie at the cinema with popcorn and ice cream, then Greek dinner (lamb shoulder) and red wine.

Member Ft. (Cutest) Bonus | Welcome to this world, Eloise!

Say hello to Mâché’s newest (and cutest!) member: Eloise Daphne Hadaj

Our member Luke and his wife Kelly welcomed baby Eloise on November 29th, and we couldn’t be happier! We think she might have some big coworking ideas brewing… or maybe just nap plans for now.

Congrats, Luke and Kelly! Your Mâché fam is so excited for you. Eloise is absolutely gorgeous and already bringing smiles to our community.

Local | Building and Construction Industry Review

The South Australian government is reviewing building and construction industry laws to improve consumer protection, industry compliance, and quality standards.

They are seeking public input on potential changes, such as stricter licensing, enhanced dispute resolution, and stronger enforcement measures. If you're involved in the industry or have concerns as a consumer, you can provide feedback through surveys, written submissions, or email.

The government will review all input and publish a summary of public feedback.

Wellbeing | Salty Sips Returns with the Warmer Weather

One of South Australia’s most popular, free community events, Salty Sips, is set to make a weekly comeback with the arrival of warmer weather. After a season of monthly offerings, the popular sunrise yoga and ocean dip sessions will increase their frequency to every Wednesday morning, alternating between Henley Square and Glenelg.

The sessions, hosted by our friends at Human.Kind Studios, start with 30 minutes of vinyasa flow yoga at 6:30am, followed by a mass ocean dip at 7am. This unique combination of relaxation and revitalisation via yoga and cold water immersion has captured the hearts of many locals.

The event, which sometimes draws crowds exceeding 500 participants, is especially noted for its positive impact on mental health and overall well-being.
