Mâché News

Member Feature | Dan Hockin

Dan has recently joined the Mâché crew as one of our Flexi Desk members. Want to know more about him? Read on!

For the past 20 years, Dan has been self-employed as a mechanical designer in the water industry. He recently shifted gears, retraining as a home energy assessor through Scorecard and launching a new business with a friend: Adelaide Home Energy Assessors. He’s now actively taking on work, so feel free to contact him here.

When he’s not working, Dan volunteers as a community organiser for Electrify Adelaide and with various Landcare/Friends groups in the Adelaide Hills, where he lives. In his downtime, you’ll find him pottering in the veggie garden, practicing yoga, or nerding out on energy topics to keep his brain and soul nourished.

What's the best thing about Mâché so far?
The diverse community of interesting people, and a welcoming workspace. Plus it gets me out of the house and gives my family some space.

Any must-read books or must-watch movies?
Yes - Sand Talk by Tyson Yunkaporta. Even better on audible as he narrates it.  My son studied a chapter in Year 12 a few years back and I found it so interesting I read the whole book - Amazing perspective and insight - we have a lot to learn.

Favourite holiday spot?
Really loved Croatia where we spent a couple weeks a few years back.

Go-to comfort food?
Tough one, our family are big foodies, so there are always good choices and new flavours.

One thing you absolutely can't live without?
Nature.  A walk in the bush, being totally present, can fix most things for me.

Top pick: band, DJ, or solo artist?
I'm a tragic for female vocalists, but otherwise pretty eclectic.

Perfect day out in Adelaide?
Out for a bushwalk with my wife, some good food & vinos with no time commitments plus a glass of local red back at home in the garden.
